James Bolt fuses coffeehouse poetry, ecstatic dance and mind-bending physics in equal parts to create a powerful, lyrical and dramatic communication with his audience.
Bolt has appeared on MTV, competed in the National Poetry Slam and performed at the Lollapalooza alternative rock tour. In his first European engagement, Bolt was opening performer in Lisbon for Portugal's Art Expo. A native of Los Angeles, he has been featured at numerous local venues including The Knitting Factory, Beyond Baroque, Da Poetry Lounge, Barnsdall Gallery, and Telepoetics.
In his largest project to date, Bolt brought several years of writing and performing together for his acclaimed one-man show, "You Are Here (A Personal Tour of the Universe in Seven Magnitudes)." In a review of Bolt's show, the Los Angeles Times asserted "there are few performers anywhere who can match his creativity, range and energy." The L. A. Weekly described how Bolt's "sinuous movements meld effectively with his erudite wordplay" and "though he doesn't take himself too seriously, he's serious enough for us to care."
Bolt has also shared his poetry, music and teaching skills with students in the Los Angeles Unified School District and led creativity sessions at the Los Angeles County Jail as a catalyst for growth, healing and enhanced self-expression.
